You might not believe me when I tell you this but...we are all brainwashed by music. I know, I know...it sounds like a strange conspiracy theory...but it is true.
We are conditioned by experts to think of music as being for pleasure...and to be honest...a lot of secular music IS exclusively for pleasure. But to think that there might be another use for music...that music can function in a completely different way...is something the music industry is less interested in promoting...frankly cause it doesn't sell a product as well.
Remember when your grandmother would hum while making breakfast? Or how your grandfather would whistle while working in the yard? Did you ever sing "I've been working on the railroad" or "Whistle while you work" and actually think about how effective music is in helping us do things that otherwise is difficult? Could this be the reason we sing at funerals...or why cultures sing songs like "We will overcome" to endure tremendous times of trial?
How about this...think about the last time you went shopping in a store and music WASN'T playing in the background. Did you realize that the style of music played while you shop was designed to make you buy more and stay in the store longer? Pay close attention to the power of music in commercials. What is it saying about the product? What is it saying to the consumer?
